Applications: |
Vanadium imparts hardness, tensile strength and machining qualities. Vanadium steels are used for general engineering purposes. Small quantities of vanadium (0.1%-0. 25%) impart excellent welding characteristics. Larger amounts of vanadium (1%-5%), combined with chromium and tungsten in steel, are used to make high speed tools noted for hardness retention over a moderate temperature range. Vanadium steels are used in high-pressure boilers, locomotive parts, gears and turbines. |
